Dear John

Dear John Tesh,

My officemate and I listen to you at work from ten in the morning until three in the afternoon when your show is on.  That’s right, for five hours.

I give you credit for playing a variety of artists.  I can hear anyone from Phil Collins, to Carrie Underwood, to Celine Dion, to Chicago, to The Police, to Aerosmith, to Jason Mraz, to Eric Clapton, to Gavin Rossdale…However, variety is sorely lacking in the the area of songs from these artists.  Aerosmith had more hits than “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.”  Phil Collins had more hits than “You’ll be in my Heart.”  The Police had more hits than “I’ll be Watching You.”  Jason Mraz has more hits than “I’m Yours,” and Eric Clapton, seriously, you can’t pull a song other than “Layla” or “Tears in Heaven?”  All these songs are lovely, but five hours, five days a week of the same thirty songs?  That’s not variety John.

And I bet you that if I listen to and obey all of the “Intelligence for Your Life” tidbits I will most likely die way before I’m 100.  Even though there are some good tips, and some decent info in what you share it is mostly commons sense stuff.  It disturbs me that some people comment on your show as if surprised to learn that if you sleep for at least eight hours a night, and get regular exercise you will have more energy and be generally healthier.  People don’t know that?  They have to learn it from your show?  Well, I guess it’s a good thing you’re telling them then.

One more thing, John.  Just because one person in one university, or one person in a foreign country somewhere did one study (usually with a very small sample population) that yielded some results  it does not produce solid enough data to pass on for people to run their lives by.

John, you do a good job with your show. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to listen to five hours of clean music, and deejaying during the week. All I’m asking for is a little more variety in song choices, and a little more effort on the research.

Sincerely,
Leslie and fellow listeners of our “official at work station.”

Happy Anniversary, Dear Wrist

A week ago I celebrated the one-year anniversary of my surgery. Okay, so I didn’t really celebrate rather I’m still disheartened, and frustrated that after a whole stinking year there is still pain when bending it forward and backward, and when putting pressure on it. Seriously folks, what the heck?

Also, my fibromyalgia has been really acting up over the last two weeks, and I don’t know why.  I haven’t felt this bad for this long in years.

I guess that’s what getting old is all about, I mean I am turning 27 in two months. :)

Happy Singles Awareness Day Folks

This Valentine’s Day with its inevitable hyper-awareness of singleness brings along a sickness that began three days ago.  Oh, and going with the red theme, well, I suppose you don’t need to know that.

I found the need to get out of my apartment to avoid the unavoidable romantic movies on the temporary cable I have, but also because I’m going stir crazy. So, I go to Publix for some more water, and pharmaceutical advice this afternoon.  I wasn’t thinking much about it until the store makes you walk through a myriad of heart-shaped candy boxes, balloons, and the like.

Presently I find myself watching a documentary on “Germans in America” while my cat, my valentine, sleeps nearby.  Incidentally, the lady narrating keeps saying, “Missour-uh” and it’s driving me crazy.  She’s not southern either.   I never knew a great deal of Germans settled in Missouri.  Makes sense that they would leave the Rhineland and find the Missouri River.  There’s also Germantown in Pennsylvania.

This is a random post, isn’t it?  I love Germany. I miss Jen and Nate. They left Tuesday for Herborn.  Yeah, I think that’s where my sickness came from.  They were both sick, poor things. I pray they are feeling well now.  I can’t imagine traveling that long (or at all) feeling this way.

I’m going to attempt attending church tonight.  I must go to order Angel Food for one of my clients, and I hope to stay. Perhaps I’ll pop in the back row, and try not to touch anyone or anything, although I’m not sure I’m contagious anymore.

Then, if I’m still feeling half-way human it’s off to Monique’s apartment to get my hair did.  It has been in desperate need of being cut, but I want it dyed as well.  Okay, time to eat, and save some energy for travel.

New Apartment Day 4

Since Sunday, the first night in my new apartment, I’ve slept like an infant; uncomfortable outside the womb of my familiar surroundings, a bit fussy, and unable to sleep for more than a an hour or two at a time.  I’m a light sleeper, so new creaks, or the bright light outside my bedroom window prove to be incredibly difficult obstacles to overcome in hopes of  a somewhat relaxed, and peaceful sleep.  Exhausted, yet unable to sleep.  This is not my favorite.

Last night, I am happy to report, I sleep mostly through the night.  I went to bed late as I have had, and do have trouble falling asleep, so I did not get enough rest, but I got fairly consistent sleep which is fabulous.

My precious kitty is nearly fully adjusted to the new sights, smells, and noises…perhaps adjusting quicker than I have. I thought surely it would have been the other way around.  I’m so very thankful for him as I have found even in this short amount of time the aloneness being both a blessing, and, well, lonely.

Everyone (friends, family, co-workers) has been so very generous and kind in helping me move, giving me duplicates of random items from their homes or pantries, and making their way over to see the new place.  I’d like to have a “Come Warm my House” party, but I’d rather do that when there aren’t boxes still lying around with bits and pieces to be sorted.  I also want it to be a time of just hanging out, not a bring-me-a-present time.  Thankfully, unless someone has an extra vacuum cleaner lying around, I’m not in need of much more.  Jehovah Jireh ya’ll.

I’m glad it’s Friday.  I’m glad I have nothing to do tonight save maybe having a few friends over for a movie.  This weekend is filled with drumming for one of our church’s satelite campus…my first weekend of four services, yikes! Wanna watch?  I think IT has it fixed. www.calvaryccm.comand click on the live Viera link Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Okay, going to call and check on Amber’s dad.

Define “Lengthy”

To my surprise, and relief the “lengthy” dentist appointment for a small filling, and getting my bottom retainer finally off took a total of 20 minutes!  Sweet! There’s nothing like the smell of your teeth being drilled..kind of a burning rubber meets an over-used, hot power drill smell.

They had the weather channel on in the office where this was done.  I agree with my dentist in saying that it’s such a surprise when they tell you that in Florida, in the summer time it’s going to be hot, and it’s going to rain this afternoon.  Wow.  Those guys went to a swell school to figure that out.

I’m going to start temping for the local weather reports during the summers for some extra cash.

I don’t think the dentist grinded all the glue off my bottom teeth…maybe I’ll call him about that.

Incidentally…

The last time I was in a car accident was NOT my fault. My friends and I were driving from Wal-Mart back to Lee University listening to “NSYNC sing “This I Promise You,” when during the bridge of the song (it was all very perfect) some college kid decided to try and turn left-TRY being the operative word. Anyway, I walked back into my office just now, and lo and behold, “This I Promise You” in playing.

“‘Till the day my life is through…”

Slower Traffic Keep RIGHT…or ever better, stay home!

It is inevitable that I get behind the slowest drivers in Brevard County on my way to work each morning. Why is it then that I have yet to learn to leave just a littler earlier than I do? I should really make small steps in putting my self in a situation where my road rage is at least reduced. By this I mean, the slow drivers will still bug the crap out of me, but at least they won’t “make” me late to work.

Baby steps, Bob Wiley, baby steps.

Venturing Out

My long, lost friend Rob used to flip his phone open while announcing, “survey says?!” and hoping, as we all do for a missed message letting him know that someone cared.

I feel that way with my blog.  So, it is now open to the public.  That’s slightly frightening, but mostly exciting.  So, please add me to your blogroll.  I wonder what kind of searches will lead people here…probably not ones relating to awkwardness….Casey….ha ha.  We’ll see…

Auf Wiedersehen Deutschland

So I’m home from Germany.  I plan on posting more about the trip, and putting pictures up later, but for now just wanted to say hello to those who stop by to see if there is a new post.  Thank you for praying for me/us on the trip. I look forward to sharing with you about it, and hopefully I will learn how to put pictures on here where they look good.  Help, Amber!

Looking forward to catching up with Casey, and Hun’s blog.  Got you covered already Amber.  And yes, I left comments.  Love keeping up with you guys via blog, since sometimes we’re not so good at keeping in touch other ways.  Casey, when the heck are you coming to see us?! I know Gramse and Grandpa would love it!  Shauna????  Amber??? This fall sounds good to me…Florida is nice in Sept-Oct.

I will try and post about the trip at least by this weekend.  Stay tuned…

Just for fun, here’s a random picture of me, and my brother making a cake for Mom’s birthday 100 years ago.

I could totally crack an egg better than him
